I’m assuming everyone has been way too busy enjoying summer to have noticed that I haven’t updated my blog for weeks. Let’s face it, when the sky is blue and days are long and all routine has gone out of the window, who needs it! I, in fact, left the clear blue skies and warm summer nights to go the heavy clouds and monsoons of India. The tourist board made the monsoons sound really romantic when in actual fact they were just very wet and muddy. But, all travel experience is good as far as I’m concerned and this was a mad one but it was fun.
Now depending on your taste, the food in India can be the highlight or the low point in your trip because it really is so different. Unless you are in a very cosmopolitan part of India then you aren’t going to have much choice. It’s Indian for breakfast, lunch and dinner – and that means spice, spice and spice. Personally I love spice so I was in my element. I spent most of my trip between photographing it and eating it.
I get frustrated in Europe because everything to do with food is so controlled and so clean and needless to say, this was not the case in India. In India food is everywhere and everyone is selling it. From small eateries serving basic rice meals, to food stalls cooking up all sort of snacks, to people going from house to house with home cooked meals.
Everything is touched by human hand – so you just have to hope those hands are relatively clean. I have to say that we got through our trip more or less unscathed, and certainly didn’t come back having lost any weight, damn it…
No new recipes in this post – just a few images. Recipes next time.

The Chili grinder and the guy making tea are my favorites. Certainly worth the trip when you get photos like that, so we will forgive you for not blogging more about it. Miss you!

Yes, the tea guy is great but I really like the photo with the chili grinder. Once again the colours are absolutely amazing. This must be another exhibition, Sharon.

My favourite is the dancing couple, perfectly synchronised, preparing their exquisite finger food against a background of cheap plastic tarpaulins, bowls and bottles. Wonderful!
