Xmas is coming – friends round for drinks, parties, potlucks, family dinners…and all those decisions about what to make, what to take.
So, these two great recipes, dukkah and muhammara, might help you with that. I posted them both a while back but as I was making them the other day I thought this was the perfect moment to re-post.
Dukkah, an Egyptian spicy nut dip is easy to make. It doesn’t require any ingredients that are difficult to find. It’s one of those things that really gets people excited. Serve it with a little bowl of good olive oil and some bread for dipping and I promise you it will be a bit hit!
Muhammara – pronounced Muha -Mmara I am told – is a Syrian roasted red pepper and walnut dip but a little trickier because you need to get hold of pomegranate molases. This sweet tart concentrate looks like syrup and is available in Middle Eastern shops and large supermarkets, but obviously that depends on where you live. (They don’t sell it in supermarkets where I live!). It’s definitely worth buying a bottle as you can use it for a variety of fantastic recipes.
Neither of these recipes require much effort but taste great and are always really popular. They can be made ahead and kept in the fridge so you can whip them out and impress anyone who happens to drop by for a xmas drink. Click those links and try them out!
You can serve both with any good bread but if you want to make the pita, try this recipe. It always works beautifully.
So, I hope this helps. If you make them, please let me know what you think in the comments below. I always appreciate your feedback!
Happy Christmas to you all….Felices Fiestas as they say where I live. Eat, drink and be merry!
